Ridgewood Teenager Is The First To Swim 21 Miles From Long Island To N.J.: Report

Open-water swimmer Charlotte Samuels finishes historic feat in less than 10 hours.

Charlotte Samuels became the first person to swim 21 miles across the New York Blight this weekend.

Samuels, 17, completed the historic journey is less than 10 hours, NJ.com reported. She started on Long Island’s Atlantic Beach at 7:20 a.m. and finished on the southern edge of Sea Bright, N.J. at 4:50 p.m. Samuels previously estimated the swim would take between 12 and 16 hours to complete.

“I really liked this swim. It didn’t feel that long because it was half the length of my other swims,” Samuels told the website. “The water was really, really choppy, but if you rode the waves, it pushed you forward.”

Samuels said her friend told her she wa a five-foot-long shark, but she didn’t it, the report said.

Samuels has already won the Triple Crown of swimming by swimming across the English Channel, the Catalina Channel in California, and around the island of Manhattan.
