Ridgewood's Ali Stroker Performing 1-Woman Show In NYC
Stroker will be in NYC Sept. 17 and 18 for her show 'Burning Old Dresses.' She is the first actress in a wheelchair to perform on Broadway.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Ali Stroker, the village actress who has appeared on Broadway and on "Glee," is adding a another credit to her resume.
Stroker will be on stage for her one-woman show, "Burning Old Dresses" at The Green Room 42 Sept. 17 and 18 in New York City.
Stroker will sing some of her favorite pop and theater songs and tell stories.

Stroker was in a car crash when she was 2 and is paralyzed from the waist down. Despite her limited mobility, she has never placed limits on herself.
Stroker was the first wheelchair-bound actor to appear on a Broadway stage during the 2015 revival of "Spring Awakening." She also starred in 12 episodes of "The Glee Project," and guest starred on "Glee."

It has been a busy year for Stroker. She was cast in a supporting role in ABC's 'Ten Days In The Valley' opposite Kyra Sedgwick. Stroker plays Tamara, a writer and researcher who works for Sedgwick's character. Stroker describes the character as "an encyclopedia of facts and statistics," who isn't afraid to let her opinions be known. The series premiers Oct. 1.
Stroker received the Distinguished Young Alumna Award from New York University. She is an alumnus of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Last summer she hosted a workshop for aspiring actors in Ridgewood.
Stroker received critical acclaim for her role as "Olive" in "The Twenty-Fifth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at Bergen County's Papermill Playhouse, where she trained as an actress. The performance earned her a Barrymore Award nomination.
The "Burning Old Dresses" performances begin at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $40.
