TEANECK, NJ — A Teaneck man is facing multiple charges in connection with a Saturday car crash that killed two people, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Teddy Mejia, 32, was charged with vehicular homicide following the crash that occurred on Teaneck Road shortly after 2 a.m. Prosecutors also charged him with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and possession of a controlled substance.

According to prosecutors, Mejia and two passengers were in a 2021 BMW when the car left the road near Bilton Street and struck a tree before overturning. Mejia was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment, prosecutors said. The two male passengers died at the crash scene.

Authorities arrested Mejia and discovered a controlled substance in his possession, prosecutors said, adding that he was also suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The victims' names were withheld pending notification of family.

Following his release from the hospital, authorities said Mejia would be taken to Bergen County Jail to await a court appearance.
