School Aide Charged With Sexual Assault Of Child: Bergen County Prosecutor

A 21-year-old after-school aide in Bergen County was charged with aggravated sexual assault, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — An after-school aide in Bergen County has been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault and with endangering the welfare of a child, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said Monday.

Jonathan P. Jones, 21, of Bloomingdale, was arrested Saturday and charged with three offenses, prosecutors said: aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutor said that on Friday, Dec. 1, the Englewood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile.

An investigation determined that Jones sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13 in Englewood "while in a supervisory role," prosecutors said.

Jones was arrested Saturday, Dec. 2 in Paramus, prosecutors said. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

NJ 101.5 reported that Englewood Superintendent of Schools Marnie Hazelton said that the suspect had worked at the afterschool program at Dr. Leroy McCloud Elementary School, for third through fifth graders. She said he was an employee of the town's Recreation Department and not the school district.
