Ridgewood officials are waiting on state approval to install solar panels at George Washington Middle School.

The project is being done at no cost to the district.

Superintendent Daniel Fishbein said that officials are hopeful the panels will be installed this fall.

The panels will be owned and maintained by Verterra Renewables. The district will purchase electricity generated from the panels at a discounted rate, Fishbein said.

In the past 12 months, the power the district’s solar panels have generated equals nearly 14,000 60-watt light bulbs being used for eight hours a day and more than 197,000 gallons of gasoline saved.
