BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Spring began at 11:06 p.m. Tuesday night — the start of the vernal equinox — and despite some meteorologists talking about the possibility of one last snowstorm around this time, the forecast now calls for heavy rain over the weekend.

The winter of 2023-2024 saw two major snowstorms that closed many Bergen County schools, one in January and one in February. The latter didn't really whip up until after 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 13, misleading some into believing that forecasters and school officials had called it wrong. But once it began, the snow continued for much of that day.
