Spring Sports Start Season in Full Swing

Rainouts aside, the Panthers are roaring into the new season.

After the rain canceled the big first Friday of the season, all of the teams at Glen Rock were back in action this week.

Baseball (2-0)

  • On the diamond, the baseball team got off to a strong start by drubbing Wood Ridge 19-5 on Saturday in their first game of the year. Matt Lawsky propelled the Panthers on the mound, and catcher Tyler Blind had 3 RBIs.
  • On Monday, Rob Costello pitched a strong game and the team improved to 2-0, defeating Elmwood Park 8-0. Costello made his first varsity start and struck out 11 batters.
  • The baseball team will be back in action Wednesday, playing at Becton. On Friday, the team will host Garfield at 4 p.m.

Softball (2-0)

  • The softball team had similar success, as they defeated Elmwood Park 6-0 on Monday in their first game.  Julia Machi smashed a home run and Taylor Feuss was great from the pitcher’s circle.
  • The Lady Panthers will duel Becton on the road Wednesday, and then host Garfield on Friday at 4 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse (1-0)

  • Boys lax grabbed a big opening win on Saturday, defeating Vernon 11-7.  The team used a 6-goal third period to get out ahead. Five players netted goals for the Panthers in the win.
  • The team is back on the field on Wednesday as they look to go to 2-0 when they host DePaul Catholic. They also take on Wayne Valley at home on Saturday at 12:30 p.m

Girls Lacrosse (0-0)

  • Due to the rain on Friday, their opening game against Kinnelon was canceled, so the Lady Panthers will open up their season with a big game at Montclair on Wednesday.

Boys Tennis (1-0)

  • The tennis team defeated Garfield 3-2 to start NJIC play.  Alvaro Aldaz and Josh Sauer won their singles matches and Billy Hans and Kosuke Sakamoto won their doubles match to give Glen Rock the win.
  • The tennis team hosts Lodi at home on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Golf (3-0)

  • The golf team got off to a great start on the season, besting Queen of Peace (23-8), Hasbrouck Heights (26.5-4.5) and North Arlington (29-5-1.5).
  • Diamo Streaser paced Glen Rock, shooting a 44.
  • Golf is back in action again on Wednesday at Darlington at 4 p.m.
