Stropical Storm Ophelia In Bergen County, Day 2: Inch Of Rain, Gusts Possible

BERGEN COUNTY NJ — Tropical Storm Ophelia is far from o'er in Bergen County.

Fall 2023 kicked off on Saturday with the "home brew" tropical storm that formed off the coast of the Carolinas and proceeded slowly north. While Tropical Storm Ophelia dumped rain on Bergen County on Saturday, there may be at least another inch to come on Sunday, forecasters say.

Three counties (Hudson, Essex, and Passaic) were briefly under a flood watch Saturday. One Essex County town, Maplewood, reported several roads closed due to downed trees. (See all New Jersey watches and warnings here.)

In Bergen County, the National Weather Service says another inch of rain may fall Sunday after some overnight gusts and thunderstorms.

On Monday, when many schools are closed for Yom Kippur, the rain may end by 2 p.m., the NWS says. Tuesday is expected to be sunny.
