Student Charged In Racial Bias Incident At Glen Rock High School
The 17-year-old used Instagram to circulate "racially biased" comments to other Glen Rock High School students, police said.
GLEN ROCK, NJ — A Glen Rock High School student used Instagram to circulate "racially biased" comments on other Glen Rock student's pages. Now, the teenager has been arrested for bias intimidation and harassment, police said.
An investigation into racially biased comments made on Instagram began Jan. 24, police said.
About one month later, detectives received additional information from school administration that "questionable comments" had been entered into the chat of a school Zoom session. These comments targeted a student's gender identity, police said.

Detectives were able to obtain I.P. addresses from information given to them by student victims and the school's IT department, and secured a court order for subscriber information. With this information they were able to identify a suspect, who is a 17-year-old male student.
Two detectives arrested that student on March 23 at 4:57 p.m., police said. He is charged with bias intimidation and harassment.

The student was processed at Glen Rock Police headquarters, and released to the custody of his father. The case was referred to the Juvenile Intake Unit at the Superior Court in Hackensack, police said.
