Teen From Bergen County Missing Amid Attacks In Israel: Gov. Murphy
A 19-year-old from Bergen County who's serving in the Israeli military and another man are missing, NJ Gov. Phil Murphy said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 19-year-old graduate of Tenafly High School, who's serving in the Israeli Defense Forces, is among those missing in Israel after attacks over the weekend by the militant group Hamas, media outlets reported Tuesday night.
Edan Alexander was serving near the Gaza border during the attacks, Gov. Phil Murphy said at a vigil in Hoboken Tuesday evening.
State Attorney General Matthew Platkin had said at a different event in Tenafly on Tuesday that another Bergen County native is also missing in the attacks, but didn't elaborate, according to the Record of Hackensack.

But the Record later said the second man was Itay Gisko, who had spent "early years" in Paramus.
Murphy's initial remarks came at a candlelight vigil called "Hoboken Hearts Israel," meant to remember the dead.

CNN quoted Murphy as saying that he received the information about Alexander from the teen's parents.
“At the time of this weekend’s attack, he was serving near the Gaza border in the Israel Defense Forces," Murphy said. “We pray for his swift safe return, and we pray for every family in New Jersey and across the country with loved ones who are still unaccounted for."
On Saturday, the militant group Hamas killed 700 Israelis, including children, and kidnapped hundreds of others off the street.
Among those killed were more than 200 attending a music festival, according to international media reports.
Saturday was the bloodiest day in Israel since the Yom Kippur war 50 years ago, the BBC reported.
