Transformer Issue Causes Recent Glen Rock Power Outage: Blotter
A February power outage was caused by a malfunctioning transformer, plus more from this week's Glen Rock Police blotter.

09:50 a.m. – While on patrol along Route 208 North, P.O. Sarah Orsita came across a storage container on its side partially obstructing the travel portion of the highway. Investigation found that a tow-truck hauling a roll-off container struck the Maple Avenue overpass, causing the container to dislodge from the truck and spill its load when it hit the ground. The fuel tank of the tow-truck was ruptured during the crash causing a fuel spill on the highway as well.

It was determined that the initial collision occurred in Fair Lawn, just prior to the Glen Rock border, at which point the investigation was turned over to the Fair Lawn Police Department. Glen Rock officers remained on scene to assist with traffic.

1:13 p.m. – A Glen Rock resident reported receiving mail at their home addressed to persons they were unfamiliar with. The resident had resided in their home for seven years and the names on the mail, which began arriving in December, were not that of the prior homeowner. The investigating officer was able to track the persons in question down and found that they resided in Sherman Oaks, CA and Binghamton, NY. Arrangements were made for proper disposition of the mail. At this juncture it could not be determined if this was a criminal matter.

2:51 a.m. – Patrols, along with Glen Rock Fire Fighters, responded to Henry Street on a 9-1-1 report of a utility emergency. A power service voltage interruption caused the activation of residents’ smoke alarms and caused an odor of smoke in some of the homes. PSE&G determined that the source was a malfunctioning transformer which subsequently resulted in a power outage to numerous homes. The matter was turned over to PSE&G for correction.
