Umbrella Mistaken For Shotgun At Glen Rock High School: Blotter

Authorities responded to the high school after a "concerned citizen" mistook a golf umbrella for a weapon, Glen Rock Police said.

5:54 PM – A resident on the 200 block of Boulevard reported the theft of a child’s black Schwinn bicycle from their garage at the rear of the home. The bicycle was taken some time between 4:30 PM and the time of the report, however, the resident did not witness anything out of the ordinary.

8:14 PM – The manager at the CVS Store on Rock Road reported that a customer had left the self-checkout area without paying for $14.58 worth of merchandise. The store video captured images of the subject, a tall white male in his 30’s, wearing a gray fleece, blue jeans and a baseball cap. He is seen scanning his purchase but does not pay before departing the store with the merchandise. The act was not detected until well after the man left the store.

7 AM – Glen Rock patrols, supported by members of the Ridgewood Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 report of an adult male walking into the Glen Rock High School with a shotgun. Responding officers quickly determined that the subject was a member of the staff carrying a golf umbrella. There was no criminal intent, but rather a misperception by a concerned citizen who called 9-1-1 in good faith.

2:31 PM – A Wyckoff resident reported that his 2016 Ford pickup truck was struck by a hit and run vehicle while parked on the 100 block of Harding Road. An unidentified witness reported that the vehicle in question was a red pickup truck. No plate number or description of the operator was provided. Any witness, who may be able to provide more detailed information is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.

2:58 PM – A Glen Rock resident reported discovering $579 worth of fraudulent charges on her credit card. One of these charges resulted in a delivery of the fraudulently purchased merchandise to their home. The resident has notified their credit card company and is continuing to monitor deliveries.
