Victims Report 2 'Roof Repair' Scams In Glen Rock; 1 Arrest
One Glen Rock victim wound up with a hole in the roof due to a home improvement scam. Police have made an arrest.
GLEN ROCK, NJ — Police in Glen Rock reported this month that a suspect was arrested elaborate "roof repair" scam. Meanwhile, in a separate roofing scam this month, the victim didn't fall for it.
Back in July 2023, a resident said that two people claiming to be roofing contractors knocked on their door in Glen Rock unsolicited.
The duo said that the complainant’s roof appeared to need repair and offered to provide an estimate.

"They provided a business flyer and the resident agreed to the estimate," police say. "Shortly thereafter the resident heard a banging on their roof and went outside to find that the men had climbed up on their roof and that there was now a hole in it."
The resident told them to stop and to repair the damage.

The faux roofers said they needed to go get some wood and shingles, and left. They never returned.
The victim determined that $2,000 worth of damage had been done.
The person was able to provide surveillance video to the police, who were able to investigate.
Working in cooperation with the Vernon, NJ, Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Glen Rock detectives arrested Jimmy Jones, 42, of Queens this month.
Det. Sgt. Jim Calaski and Det. Lucas Doney took Jones into custody at Vernon police headquarters, then brought him to Glen Rock police headquarters, where he was charged with third-degree criminal mischief.
He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await an appearance before Central Judicial Processing at the Superior Court in Hackensack.
More Recent Incident
In a more recent incident related to roof repair, on May 22, 2024, a Glen Rock resident reported a suspicious phone call.
The victim said that the person claimed to be from “Home Improvement Services." The caller claimed they were in Glen Rock and that the resident’s roof needed repair. The caller said they could stop by to provide an estimate.
Then, according to the victim, the caller asked if the victim lived alone.
"Recognizing that this was a potential scam, the resident notified the police," police said.
The scam was unsuccessful in that case.
