Woman Flees Burning Car In Bergen County, Saying Child Is Inside: Police

Police in Bergen County responded Saturday after a woman crashed her car and ran from it, telling police a child was inside.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A woman who crashed her car in Fair Lawn on Saturday was able to escape the fiery wreck, then falsely told police her child was inside, they said.

Police in Fair Lawn said that they received "multiple calls" on Saturday afternoon that a car had driven off of Saddle River Road, onto someone's lawn, and into the park behind the home.

When police arrived, they found the vehicle engulfed in flames and the woman exiting the vehicle, they said.

Police said the woman's child was never in the vehicle and was safe at a different location.

The victim was transported to New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus for evaluation, police said.

Two officers were treated for minor injuries at the scene, police said.

Charges are pending upon the outcome of the investigation.

"Excellent job to our Fire Department, Rescue and EMS," the Fair Lawn police said. They also thanked the Paramus, Wyckoff, and Glen Rock police, and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
