As we look forward to the 2013 wedding season, here are the wedding cakes trends we forsee in New Jersey and New York City.
As we look forward to the 2013 wedding season, here are the wedding cakes
trends we forsee in New Jersey and New York City.
Wedding Dress Detail
Wedding dress styles will continue to inspire wedding cake designs. We
expect that lace will be one of the most influential design elements for wedding
cakes. Ruffles will continue to be popular particulary the rosette style
ruffles. Peplums are seeing a comeback on the runway and we expect this style
of ruffle to appear on wedding cakes this year. Check out the the wedding dress
designs we pinned on Pinterest that we think will
influence wedding cakes this year.
Texture and Patterns
While white on white wedding cakes are always in vogue, many brides will
choose texture and patterns for their wedding cake designs. Chevron will
continue to be hot as well as florals, rainbow elements, ombre, and bark
inspired designs -- see texture and pattern inspiration photos on Pinterest.

Vintage
Inspired by the cinema and runway trends, wedding cakes will take inspiration
from the 1920's, 30's and 40's but with a contemporary twist. Look
for lace, pearls, elegance and romance. Look for more vintage designs on Pinterest.
Birds
Love birds are popping up on cakes as toppers or subtle design elements.
Feathers are also appearing either subtle white or flashy bright peacock and
ostrich feathers. We've pinned aviary inspiration
on Pinterest.

Green is the Fashion Color of Choice
Pantone has predicted Emerald would be the color of the year. The paler
variation - mint - was big on the runway this year. Mint goes great with pale
peach, light pink and ivory. It is fresh and clean and also has a vintage feel.

Tall Even Among the Small
Tier heights will be at least 4" tall and often they span up to 8" tall. This
is a nice combination with other varying height tiers -- some tall, some small.
Even petite two tier cakes have a grand appearance when the tier heights are
tall.
Basics Flavors Remain Popular
Brides and groom's want to please a crowd so generally stick with the basics
when it comes to cake flavors and icings. We expect that the most popular cake
flavors will remain red velvet, chocolate and vanilla. Our twist on the basic
vanilla is pink champagne which has a slightly fruity flavor and is a bride
favorite.
Buttercream
Brides are opting for a eat with your eyes approach and more frequently
choosing buttercream over fondant. There is a lot of texture that can be
acheived with buttercream but dont' try to simply convert fondant designs into
buttercream. Fresh application for buttercream are rosettes, messy buttercream,
and vertical ruffles. Check out more buttercream
designs on Pinterest.
