Lady Hawks Strike out Westwood

ORADELL - The River Dell Varsity Softball Team defeated the Westwood Cardinals on Friday for their second win of the season. After their 9-0 shutout over the Cardinals, the Lady Hawks now sit at 2-1 after defeating Ramsey, 4-2 on April 1 and then dropped a tight 8-7 match to Mahwah.

The sunny afternoon game against the Cardinals started off just as bright as senior Lindsey Clark smacked a triple deep into the outfield.

With help from teammates Sarah Recanati and Cathy Antonelli, River Dell shortly took the lead and got their name on the scoreboard.

“Cathy pitched a great game, and she had some clutch hits,” Clark shared. “I think that every player made some kind of impact on the game. We all hit the ball, and we had a great defense.”

Freshmen Kayla Rosado helped out the team by hitting and then minutes later owning first plate and knocking out Westwood, which lead River Dell back on the mound up at bat.

Nevertheless, the Lady Hawks had a total of nine consecutive runs for the night.

“Everyone is really starting to play together as a unit,” Recanati said. “Our hitting keeps getting stronger and stronger.”

The Lady Hawks were in Allendale to face Northern Highlands on Saturday morning.
