Located on 200 Campgaw Road in Mahwah, the Campgaw Mountain Reservation is mostly known for its skiing opportunities in the winter. However, this 1,373 acre wooded park has plenty to offer during the summer. Among the camp's many amenities are golfing, camping, picnicking and archery range (with valid permit).

Before it was a reservation, Campgaw was unoccupied wilderness. In 1960, the Bergen County Park Commission created the reservation.

During the development of the park, Campgaw Mountain housed a Cold War Nike Missile base, according to the Bergen County Historical Society. The base was active from 1955 to 1971.

Hike

The Campgaw Mountain Reservation has eight marked trail areas. Hikers can expect trails to be approximately 0.3 to 3.0 miles. Those looking for a shorter, easier hike can take the trails closest to the base of the Campgaw Mountain. Thrill seekers can stick to the trails closer to the view of the summit.

Bicycling is not permitted on any of the trails on the reservation.

For a detailed map of the area, be sure to look at the downloadable map available on the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference website.
