3 Steps to Get What You Want This Year

As the New Year approaches, it's when we tend to rehash old goals (what we did or didn't do this year) and bad habits. I know - fun. But, it's not uncommon for us to be in a push and pull with our minds and our lives resembling a somewhat schizophrenic happiness seeker.

Kind of confusing but wasn't our year like that, anyway?

While you plan on setting the world on fire for 2014, keep in mind these three fundamental principles that everyone needs in order to get ahead.

For whatever you want to do.

They are not hard. In fact, they are pretty simple.

1. Know What You Want

I know, sounds silly and somewhat like, "Duh, no kidding."

But recognize what you keep thinking about and the conversations you are having in your own mind. Too often, we know what we DON'T want. And, that just tells the Universe, "Hey buddy, listen to this."

The Universe does not discriminate between the what you want and don't want about your life. The dude only hears key phrases such as "money", "happiness", "relationships", etc.. So the next time you are having a chat with you and your brain, make sure it's about the good stuff. What you want. Where you want to go. What you are grateful for.

Oh yeah, this leads to number 2 on the list.

2. Be Grateful for What You Have

We get so caught up in the "I wants" of our lives that we forget what we already have. When you are thankful for all that you have - health, happiness, etc. - you are letting the "laws of attraction" know you want more of the same. If you are feeling abundance you will get more of the same. Focus on the good in your life and it will attract more of the good.

Get it?

Okay, the next may be a bit more challenging, but you need to get real.

Really real.

3. Stop Doing More of the Same

If you want to achieve something new, you have to do something you have never done before. So now that you know where you want to go and are thankful for all the wonderful people, places and things you already have, now stop the insanity.

You need to do one thing each day you have never done before to get you towards what you want.

Really want.

Now, this may take some detective work.

What has been stopping you from achieving number 1?

If you know what you want and have known what you want, why haven't you achieved it yet?

Sure you can blame this person and that circumstance but in the long run, you know that's not the reason. Have a good long conversation with yourself on what has sabotaged you from you in the past and start doing something new.

Make a point to do one new thing each day (or week, if that's too much) to help you write that book, run that half marathon or find that dream job.

Half the battle is BELIEVING you can achieve it.

Stop with the negative mind chatter stuff and start each day with a positive affirmation that you can be/do/have anything you wish if you commit to the work to getting there.

For me, I am committing to making this year a year of happiness and financial abundance while I maximize my expertise in certain fields of my profession.

Yes, I am grateful for the amazing life I have lived and will continue to live, but I am holding out my arms and saying, "Hey Universe, bring it on!"

I am ready to have some extra money in the bank to buy my dream log cabin on a lake (refer to vision board - been on there for a few years now!) and to sock away more money for a rainy day for my kids.

This year, I am daring to dream bigger than my negative belief system. And I am trying to outsmart it, too.

By focusing on what I can do, my passion for doing it and my willingness to do the work to get there, I am reprogramming my mindset and focusing on the what I want. And I am screaming at the Universe to bring me all the cool stuff I may not have noticed in the past because I was too caught up in noticing the bad stuff.

Before you go to bed tonight, focus on this one question.

What do you dream about?

Make 2014 your time.  For the first time.

Happy New Year!
