The NJ Association of College Admissions Counselors had an information-packed conference in Long Branch June 2 and 3. Here are five useful takeaways:
1) Rutgers is starting a residential Honors College in the fall of 2015. 500 students will be invited to participate. It will be based on the Oxford model, with faculty living onsite.
2) The new SAT debuts March 2016, and the new PSAT in October 2015. But kids who test that year will be able choose between the old SAT (they can take it in December of January) or the new SAT. Think strategically!

3) The revised Common App caused untold aggravation with its technical glitches last year. This year’s re-revised version promises to be better, including an essay text box that reputedly will not merge all text into one looonnnggg paragraph. Yay!
4) NYU, which received nearly 50,000 undergrad applications last year received 2/3 of them in the last 48 hours before deadline. (Hey, don’t be in that group!)
