Bill Britton Ties for 50th place at U.S. Senior Open at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio

Shoots second straight 1-over 72 to finish tournament at 4-over-par (70-74-72-72--288)

When asked Tuesday night about his travel plans if he missed the cut at the U.S. Senior Open on Friday, Rumson's Bill Britton responded with "Oh, I'm not planning on missing the cut."

He was right.

Surviving a late Friday night into early Saturday morning wait due to weather and the second round not complete, Britton survived the cut with a 2-over-par after Friday and Saturday's second round en route to a 4-over-par showing (70-74-72-72--288) at the U.S. Senior Open at the famed Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Olin Browne (15-under-par) won the tournament with a three-stroke victory over Mark O'Meara.

After a solid first round 1-under par 70, Britton followed with a 3-over 74 on Friday, bogeying the ninth hole (his 18th hole of the day) to finish at 2-over-par.

Britton, who has served as Director of Golf Instruction & Schools for Trump National Golf Club in nearby Colts Neck for the past three years, followed up on the weekend with two straight 1-over-par 72s to finish in a four-way tie for 50th place with amateur Tim Jackson, Fred Funk and Jim Carter.

Last year, the 55-year-old Britton shot a 17-over par 297, including a solid final round even-par 70 (tied for 53rd place), in his first U.S. Senior Open last year Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington, just outside Seattle.

Britton has won two state tournaments this season with his first-ever New Jersey PGA Charity Clambake victory in June and his second career NJ Senior PGA Championship title on July 19th.
