Deer Gets Tangled In Soccer Net In Highlands

This adult buck got tangled in a soccer net at Henry Hudson Regional High School Monday. A buck also fell into a pool in Secaucus Saturday.

HIGHLANDS, NJ — Whoa there, buddy! This adult male buck got tangled in a soccer net on the playing fields of Henry Hudson Regional High School Monday in Highlands, NJ.

Someone passing by called Highlands police, and a Highlands police officer, along with someone from the New Jersey Division of Fish & Game, came out to free the deer. They cut his antlers free from the net.

It appears to be that time of year for young bucks in New Jersey to get into trouble: A male buck in Secaucus accidentally fell into a resident's swimming pool on Saturday and had to be rescued by Secaucus firefighters. Related: Deer Falls Into Pool In Secaucus

October and November are "rutting" or mating season for deer, and it's a time of year when they are more curious, aggressive and liable to wander into backyards and onto roadways.
