Canvas Camps: Ancient Architecture

Ancient Architecture: Hand-building in Clay, June 25 through 29, Ages 6+

Children ages 6 and up will create an Egyptian pyramid, the Roman Colosseum, a Japanese Pagoda or any historical architecture that inspires them during a week-long exploration of how our structures define us culturally and aesthetically. Students will design, build, fire and glaze their architectural wonder in clay.

Ancient Architecture is one of this summer’s Canvas Camps, theme-based arts programs presented by Canvas Studio Art. Each one-week session runs Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. until noon. Cost is $225 plus $25 materials fee.

Instructor Amy McCullough Hellis earned a BFA in Sculpture and Photography from the University of Georgia. She continued her education in sculpture using ceramics as her main medium. Using sculptural stoneware and earthenware clay bodies, her work is both organic and architectural. She has been teaching functional and sculptural ceramics for 15 years, both privately and in schools in Middle Georgia where she resides. All Canvas Camp instructors are carefully chosen for their energy and experience with children.
