JLMC Gives Back to Me

Seven years ago when I joined the Junior League of Monmouth County, some of the first words of encouragement I heard were “this is a safe place to try new things; we’ve got your back; we won’t let you fail”. The League had just implemented a new website and electronic records system, a semi-grueling process in and of itself, and was now looking for someone to keep the momentum going, figure out how we could best use the system, and, by the way, chair the newly formed website committee. And they asked this girl, the CPA and public accountant whose only wish was “please don’t ask me to be the Treasurer!”. So I took a chance and tried something new and had a great time and a really fulfilling experience (also, I’d like to think I did some good for the League along the way). Sure, I had my stumbles, but aside from learning a ton about website administration…and project management…and training…and leadership…I discovered what an amazingly accomplished and smart group of women had my back and were so willing to give of themselves to help me succeed. So I joined the JLMC looking to give back to my community and this community of women winds up giving back to ME, completely in keeping with our mission of developing the potential of women, promoting voluntarism and improving our community through the action of trained volunteers. In a way, it was the perfect start to my time with the JLMC.
