LA Clippers Randy Foye Encourages Education and Positive Attitude in Youth

LA clippers basketball player Randy Foye visited the Oceanic free Library in rumson on July 13th to speak with local children about his life and his foundation.  The Randy Foye Foundation was established to identify children in Randy’s hometown community of Newark who are at risk and makes moves to steer them in the right direction through after-school activities, educational projects and mentoring programs.

Randy Foye is dedicated to giving back to the community where he was raised.  Having lost both his parents by age six Randy has seen firsthand the difficulties kids can have growing up in a tough urban environment. Despite growing up in these conditions, Foye still rose up to graduate from Villanova University in four years and is currently in his 5th season in the NBA.

The Foundation’s Assist 4 Life program Life is designed to give young students the basic tools and provide incentives to perform well academically, athletically and socially by helping them find ways to succeed through hard work and maintaining a positive attitude. This program will pilot in the Dr. E. Alma Flagg School on North 3rd Street in Newark, the elementary school that Randy attended.

Students are mentored 1-2 times per week during the school year, focusing on academics, character education and social topics.  The students enjoy having a mentor to talk to and someone who shows a vested interest in their futures.
