Men Break Into Rumson Home, Police Said, Then Chased Onto Parkway

The men were arrested after they got out of their car, which turned out to be stolen, and ran from police on foot on the Parkway, cops said.

RUMSON, NJ — Three men were arrested early Tuesday morning after they first broke into a Rumson home, activating its alarm, and were then pursued onto the Garden State Parkway by police in Rumson, Red Bank, Little Silver and the New Jersey State Police. The men were ultimately arrested after they got out of their car, which police said turned out to be stolen, and ran from officers on foot on the Parkway.

The incident started at 2:53 a.m. this past Tuesday, Nov. 13, Rumson police said: They received a 911 call from a homeowner on Buttonwood Lane East stating that three subjects had just entered his garage. The home's alarm system went off and the homeowner said he saw the men leave the area in a white vehicle.

That car was then observed by a Little Silver police officer, who said it was traveling through that town at a high rate of speed. It was subsequently observed by units from Red Bank and Tinton Falls police entering the Garden State Parkway north ramp in Red Bank.

All three occupants of the car bailed out on foot at approximately the 110 mile marker and were located and arrested with the assistance of the New Jersey State Police, Little Silver, Fair Haven, Middletown and Red Bank police departments. The vehicle, a 2018 BMW M3, white in color, was determined to be stolen out of Cresskill, New Jersey on a previous date, police said.

Arrested were: Alterek McCeary, 25, of East Orange, who was charged with two counts of burglary and one count of theft; Jared Wright, 29, of Newark, who was charged with wwo counts of burglary and one count of theft, and Suhrell Proctor, 18, of East Orange, who was charged with two counts of burglary, one count of theft and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (unspecified drugs).

The men were found to be in possession of a key fob that had been removed from a vehicle on Water Way in Rumson earlier in the night, police said. They were remanded to the Monmouth County Jail after processing. Monmouth County homeowners are often the the victim of car thefts: Patch has reported on cars being stolen in Middletown, Holmdel and Manalapan so far this fall.
