Missing Rumson Man's Body Recovered: State Police

Richard O'Day, 54, took his boat out on May 1; the boat was discovered a day later anchored at a Sandy Hook cove.

RUMSON, N.J.—The body of a boater who had been missing for more than three weeks was recovered from Sandy Hook Bay on Monday, May 23, State Police confirmed Friday to NJ.com.

Richard O'Day, 54, left his home on Shrewsbury Drive from his private dock at around 11 a.m. on May 1. The next day, around 2:30 p.m., his 27-foot Grady White Freedom boat was discovered anchored in either Spermaceti or Horseshoe Cove, containing his wallet and phone, O'Day's sister, Colleen O'Day Rozzi, said earlier this month.

"He has spent his life on the water, surfing and on boats," Rozzi said. O'Day was an investment banker with three children, she said earlier this month.
