RFH Football Bulldogs Beat the Huskies in State Championship Rematch

Rumson-Fair Haven Varsity football team defeats Matawan Huskies 21-9.

The (RFH) Bulldogs beat the Matawan Huskies at home at Borden Stadium last Friday night.

This rematch of last year’s was everything the Dawg fans hoped it would be. The Dawgs had possession of the ball first and with that they set the tone for the game. The RFH offense moved the ball down the field with precision and accuracy.

Skillfully, holding on to the ball for 12 plays and running more than 6 minutes off the clock, the Bulldogs were the first to score. The defense worked together as a pack of dogs and minimized the time the ball was held in Husky paws.

Final score RFH 21- Matawan 9

At one point the Huskies came within 4 points of the Dawgs, but that was as close as they would get to catching them. While the Bulldogs
certainly possessed the tenacity and willingness to play in this dog fight, it
was their composure that ultimately sealed the win. RFH played like the
Champions that they are. The team appeared calm, cool, under control and very professional as they maintained possession of the ball for most of the game.

Even when Matawan seemed to have a little momentum in their favor the
Dawgs calmly went to work putting more points on the board.  They proved that they are what they believe, the Top Dogs.

Danny Roberto once again made good use of all of his players,
throwing, pitching, and handing off the ball with plenty of time in the
pocket.    All three touchdowns were scored by Connor
Riley, who rushed for over 100 yards.

“The Matawan win was big for us in terms of power points and
getting another win in our division,” Head Coach Shane Fallon said, “Connor Riley ran very hard and his 3 rushing touchdowns were aided by strong blocking from our offensive line, Matt Jewett, Dan Wojciehowski, Gunnar Tilly, Taylor Avino, Andrew Brunetto, and Joe Brunetto.”

This week the Bulldogs will play on Thursday night, October
6th, at home on the Two River Times Field at Borden Stadium at
7pm.  They will face the winless Monmouth Regional Falcons. It will be Senior Night when senior members of the football team, cheerleading squad, and marching band will be recognized during half time.
