Rumson Scores Exceptionally High On PARCC

Tiny towns like Rumson, Monmouth Beach and Sea Girt outscored much bigger districts like Holmdel and Middletown on PARCC.

RUMSON, NJ — When it comes to PARCC test results, it seems tiny towns with smaller school districts seem to fare the best. Small Monmouth County towns like Rumson, Monmouth Beach and Sea Girt outscored larger districts like Holmdel and Middletown on NJ PARCC, according to new results from the controversial test, just released Monday, Oct. 22 by state Dept. of Education.

Many districts in New Jersey performed in the "Level 4" and "Level 5" areas, which is between the scores of 750 and 850, the latter being a perfect score. In third-grade English PARCC tests, Sea Girt Boro scored an 807 (the highest in Monmouth County), followed by Roosevelt Boro at 799, Monmouth Beach at 791 and then Rumson at 790.

Holmdel, meanwhile, came in at 774 for third-grade English and Middletown Twp. public schools came in at 754.

The PARCC tests have been a source of controversy for years, and Gov. Phil Murphy has talked for nearly year about finding replacements for the test, which stands for Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers.

Many students opted out of taking the exam, though New Jersey hasn't said how many. See all the latest PARCC test results for New Jersey here: PARCC 2018 Test Results Are In: Find Your NJ School's Ranking
