Starving Artists: Winners in NJ Shouts Down Drugs Contest
The R-FH duo got a third place performance contract

The winners of The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey’s 2012 New Jersey Shouts Down Drugs competition were announced recently and contestants won third place.
Avery Peterson and Kevin Karol, of band, ranked third among 23 high school entrants in the music writing contest that features original work with an anti-drug message. The team tied with with Kishawn Jack of Hudson County Prep High School.
Third-place winners were awarded a $2,000 contract to fund their performances at the Partnership’s events prevention events throughout the state over the next year. Second-place winners got a $3,000 contract and first place winners garnered a $5,000 contract.

Karol and Peterson, both 18, wrote and performed their song You Got High for the win.
Other winners were: Nicolas Alu, Lacey Township High School, Ocean County, first place; and, Joanne Dumerand, Arts High School, Essex County, second place.
