The Attack on Pearl Harbor: How and Why it Succeeded: Talk and Reception to Honor Those Who Serve

Commemorate the 75th anniversary The entire community is welcome, with a special invitation to our veterans and active duty military.

To mark the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor and U.S. entry into World War II, Scotch Plains Public Library extends an invitation to the entire community to attend a talk by Paul E. Zigo, Director of New Jersey-based World War II Era studies Institute. A reception honoring veterans and active duty military members will follow the talk. The talk will begin at 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 1, at Scotch Plains Public Library.

Paul Zigo states, “The attack on Pearl Harbor marked the entrance of Japan into World War II on the side of Germany and Italy and the entrance of the United States on the side of the allies – the “turning point of WW II.” The attack was always considered possible but not probable by the US military chiefs. The presentation will cover what happened on December 7, 1941 and why the attack was truly a surprise, It is important for us to not only remember the past but to understand the events of the WW II era that took place and how they affect our world today. World War II is now recognized by historians as the most significant event of the 20th Century.”

World War II Era Studies Institute is dedicated to furthering knowledge about the WW II era and the war’s impact on history. Paul E. Zigo is a graduate of Temple University and the United States Army War College. Zigo is also the executive producer and narrator of the cable network series Triumphant Spirit: America’s World War II Generation Speaks, a series that can be seen on cable television channels and YouTube.
