Beckerman Announces Plans To Seek Re-election To SP Council
Councilman Louis Beckerman believes 'there is much more work to do' in Scotch Plains.

The following is a press release submitted by Councilman Louis Beckerman.
Councilman Louis Beckerman is pleased to announce his candidacy for
Scotch Plains Council in this November’s Election
“I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Scotch Plains Council,” said Beckerman. “I have enjoyed my time serving the people of Scotch Plains. But there is much more work to do. I pledge in the coming months to continue to work on the police merger with Fanwood, so that our residents can begin to see savings on their property tax bill. We must also work to improve our downtown by introducing new and innovative ideas to attract more business and shoppers, and provide new and meaningful programs for our senior population.”
Beckerman was appointed to the Scotch Plains Council in January to fill the seat vacated when Kevin Glover became Mayor.
“Lou has been an excellent addition to the Scotch Plains Council” said Assemblywoman Linda Stender, Chair of the Scotch Plains Democratic Committee. “I am confident he will be successful this fall”
Beckerman is a member of the Union County Planning Board, a member of the Scotch Plains Planning Board and former Chairman of the Scotch Plains Democratic Committee. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Jewish Federation of Greater Metro West, past President of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains, and a past Vice President of the Jewish Community Center of Central NJ in Scotch Plains. Beckerman is a former member of the New Jersey-
Israel Trade Commission. He is currently President of the North Hudson Community Action Foundation.
Beckerman is President and founder of Beckerman & Company a full service property and casualty insurance agency with offices in Colonia, Bloomfield, and Forked River, NJ. He earned his Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation and his Certified Insurance Counselor designation. Beckerman serves as the Risk Management Consultant for a number of municipalities, school boards, and non-profit organizations. Beckerman is a past President
of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of NJ.
Mr. Beckerman is a Commissioner of the New Jersey Intergovernmental Joint Insurance Fund, He was named “Professional Insurance Agent of the Year”, by the Professional Insurance Agents Association of New Jersey in 2008. Mr. Beckerman has served on numerous committees dealing with insurance issues in the State of New Jersey including the Commissioner’s Producer & Company Committee and the New Jersey Commissioners Automobile Rate Advisory
Commission.
Lou and his wife Ann have lived in Scotch Plains over 33 years. Ann is a clinical social worker at the Veteran's Administration NJ Health Care System in Lyons NJ. They are the proud parents of Michael, a partner at the Beckerman & Company firm, and Sara, a doctor of Audiology in practice in New York City, both alumni of Scotch Plains Fanwood schools.
