Williams Memorial Park&nbsp;on Port Reading Ave on the Sewaren waterfront, featuring live music entertainment followed by a fireworks show at dusk.&nbsp;Gates open at 4:00 p.m.; entertainment runs until dusk and the fireworks go off when it gets dark. Join us at the Scotch Plains Public Library on Thursday, July 2 at 7:00pm for a fascinating program on the Rise, Reign and Redemption of the Yellowstone Wolves. &nbsp; Despite being charged with protecting “against the wanton destruction” of wildlife resources, in 1926 the last wolf in Yellowstone was killed by NPS park rangers, extirpating the species from most of the continental United States.&nbsp; But, in 1995, 41 wolves from Canada were reintroduced to Yellowstone at the direction of then Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbit.

Our goal is to understand: why have wolves been simultaneously so persecuted and so revered, not just in Yellowstone but in the U.S. as a whole?
Presenter Zachary Rittner is head of the Environmental Science department at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.&nbsp; He is advisor to the <a href="https://sites.google.com/spfk12.org/conservation-in-the-classroom/home" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Conservation in the Classroom</a> program, a <a href="https://www.chrismorganwildlife.org/team" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Chris Morgan Wildlife Ambassador</a>, and a naturalist at <a href="https://ucnj.org/trailside-nature-and-science-center/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Trailside Nature Center</a>.&nbsp; <a href="https://sco.search.stellanj.org/search/card?id=240e3715-77bf-5dc8-a206-37d6d5b3db3c&amp;entityType=FormatGroup" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The Rise of Wolf 8: Witnessing the Triumph of Yellowstone's Underdog</a> is one of his favorite books.&nbsp;
