New Providence Presbyterian Church

Ricky Riccardi, a two-time Grammy-winning author and director of research collections for the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Corona, Queens, NY., will be our speaker. Not many Louis Armstrong fans are aware of the circumstances he had to overcome in his early days. Growing up in the toughest part of New Orleans, Armstrong was lucky to make it out alive, but music found him at an early age and he never looked back. Ricky will tell the tale of Armstrong's early days, as well as his triumphs in Chicago and New York, before he went on to change the world. 
The Summit Area Old Guard is a social, educational, and recreational fellowship of active men of retirement age, founded in 1930. We hear presentations most Tuesday mornings in an auditorium in New Providence, and we have many other activities including discussion groups, sports and outdoor groups, and celebrations. Our dues are minimal, and members volunteer for all aspects of the operation. Our motto is "Come for the programs. Stay for the friends." Guests are always welcome to attend and to learn about our organization.

The Choral Art Society of New Jersey, one of the area’s leading community choral organizations, announces two open rehearsals as preparations begin for its 2026/2027 season. Singers of all ability levels who have choral experience are invited to attend open rehearsals on Tuesday evenings, Sept. 15 and Sept. 22. Rehearsals are held in the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, 140 Mountain Avenue, Westfield on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Attending an open rehearsal is an opportunity to meet members of this very talented, social, growing group of dedicated singers; learn about the Choral Art Society; and consider joining. Interested singers are encouraged to arrive at 7:00 p.m. on those evenings to complete an interest form, meet the music director, and borrow music. All voice parts are welcome and no formal auditions are conducted. Music Director Seth Velez has planned an exciting and innovative repertoire for the first concert of the season to be held on Sunday, January 24, 2027. The theme is “This Winter Night,” a celebration of the turning of the seasons, with poetry settings focused on the natural beauty of the colder months. The program includes works by John Rutter, Florence Price, Claude Debussy, Johannes Brahms, Ola Gjeilo, Elaine Hagenberg, Franz Schubert, Matthew Culloton, Gustav Nordqvist, and Adolf Lindblad. This collection of shorter works spans a wide range of languages and choral traditions, and promises to have a little bit of something for everyone. The beautiful piano accompaniments will be performed by Choral Art Society accompanist Carol Walker.
If you love to sing, plan to attend one or both of the open rehearsals. We would love to see you there!
The Choral Art Society of New Jersey, which originated as The Suburban Symphony Chorus, has been in existence for 65 years and is a group of avocational singers dedicated to the study and performance of the great choral masterpieces, performing works spanning many centuries and styles. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose members, with a variety of training and experience levels, share a common joy in singing and community.

Enjoy a special evening of flamenco in fusion with a rich variety of musical influences like pop, jazz, funk, Latin and world music. The dynamic duo behind the compositions is powerhouse vocalist Bárbara Martínez and virtuosic guitarist Albert Alabedra from Barcelona, Spain. Both of their studio albums, “Dawn” and “Alma”, have made it to the first round for GRAMMY nominations. They are joined in concert by acclaimed vocalist, flamenco dancer and percussionist Olyda Ola and talented bassist and percussionist Sean Kupiz.
Bárbara comes from a lineage of celebrated Argentinian tango singer/actresses <a href="https://www.facebook.com/morenitareyoficial/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Morenita Rey</a> (her grandmother) and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertad_Lamarque" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Libertad Lamarque</a> (her grand-aunt.) Her father, Rafael Martínez, was a celebrated Venezuelan sculptor who played a role in the kinetic art movement from Latin America. Bárbara has worked as an actor, dancer and choreographer in multimedia musical plays written and directed by her mother, playwright and art-historian, Amelia Arenas.
A native of Barcelona, Spain, Albert has self-taught guitar since the age of 14. Albert was exposed to flamenco at an early age, with a mother from Córdoba and grandparents from Sevilla, the southern Spanish province of Andalucía where flamenco originated. In addition to the traditional flamenco, popular throughout Spain, Albert grew up with the global characteristic influences of cosmopolitan Barcelona.

Also, enjoy the current fine art exhibitions at the unique GALERIA The Art Venue gallery, including fine art creations by several international and local artists. We recommend enjoying a fine meal or dessert at one of various fine restaurants in downtown Westfield before or after the show.

<h3>Families Can Explore Summer 2027 at the September 26 Open House</h3>
Families thinking ahead to summer 2027 are invited to visit Meadowbrook Country Day Camp during an Open House on Saturday, September 26, from 12–4 p.m. at 73 East Valley Brook Road in Long Valley.

During their visit, prospective camp families will have an opportunity to meet members of Meadowbrook’s leadership team, learn about the camp’s programs and philosophy, and tour its expansive wooded campus.
“There’s no substitute for coming to Meadowbrook, walking the grounds and seeing what makes the camp so special,” said owner Mason Goldberg. “We want families to get a real feel for the community their children can become part of.”
<h2>More Than a Summer Schedule</h2>
Meadowbrook Country Day Camp is an American Camp Association-accredited day camp located on a 50-acre campus in Long Valley. The camp serves children ages 3–15 and offers programming designed to help campers build confidence, independence, friendships and lifelong memories.
At the heart of the Meadowbrook experience are three priorities: family, connection and safety.
Campers become part of a caring, supportive community where they can form meaningful friendships, try new things and develop greater confidence and independence. Meadowbrook also places a strong emphasis on creating an environment where every camper feels safe, supported and included.
The camp’s TIGER core values — Teamwork, Integrity, Generosity, Enthusiasm and Respect — are incorporated throughout the summer, encouraging campers and staff to carry those lessons with them both at camp and beyond.
<h2>A Summer Filled With Possibilities</h2>
No two days at Meadowbrook are exactly alike.
Campers can spend their summers swimming in heated pools, playing sports, boating, mountain biking, taking on ropes and challenge courses, creating art, cooking, dancing, exploring nature and participating in special events and themed activities.
The variety allows children to enjoy the activities they already love while also discovering new interests and challenging themselves in new ways.
Older campers can also participate in travel programs that combine time at Meadowbrook with off-site adventures and experiences.
And while the activities are a big part of camp, the friendships and memories children create along the way are often what stay with them the longest.
<h2>Convenience for Busy Families</h2>
Meadowbrook also offers features designed to make summer easier for parents.
The camp provides door-to-door bus transportation throughout many North Jersey communities, with routes serving areas throughout Morris, Essex, Union, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Middlesex and Somerset counties.
Before-care and after-care are also available, and lunch is served daily.
Another feature appreciated by Meadowbrook families is that staff tips are included in tuition, eliminating an additional end-of-summer expense.

For Goldberg, whose own children have attended Meadowbrook, creating a successful camp experience goes far beyond filling a child’s day with activities.
