Chelsea At Fanwood Senior Celebrates 103rd Birthday
Walter Doer, a bicycling enthusiast, continued to cycle into his 90's.
FANWOOD, NJ — Walter Doer, a bicycling enthusiast and resident at the Chelsea at Fanwood assisted living residence, celebrated his 103rd birthday on Dec. 3.
Doer, originally from Newark, lived in New Jersey all his life. He worked as a tool and dye maker for 40 years and had a talent for building clocks and watches.
He and his late wife Lorraine raised their daughter, Diane, in Kearney. He won many awards as a bicyclist while a member of the North Jersey Wheelmen Bicycle Club. He continued to cycle into his 90's.

Surrounded by friends and Chelsea staff, Doer had cake and was read a proclamation by Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr naming Dec. 3 Walter Doer Day.
