Last week our entire school family, including faculty and staff, celebrated with song and prayer at our annual Thanksgiving celebration. This favorite tradition began with a prayer service organized by the Student Council and the sounds of the wonderful SBA choir. Everyone then enjoyed a turkey dinner with all of the fixings, which was prepared and served by over 35 parent volunteers. The Kindergarten and First grade children dressed in Pilgrim hats and Native American headdresses, and were helped throughout the dinner by their Seventh and Eighth grade prayer buddies. The children were thankful for the food they shared, prayed for the many that go without, especially those who were affected by the typhoon in the Philippines
Also, one of the newest members of our school family has been enjoying getting to know our students. Father David Santos, who joined the St. Bartholomew community this past summer, is our school Chaplin and celebrates the First Friday Mass with the students each month. He has also been busy visiting the children and spending time with them in their classrooms. He is trying to visit one class a week and has met most of the students. Father David most recently spent time with the Kindergarten class. He shared with the class a beautifully hand carved statue of the hand of God holding a child, which he brought back with him from his work at an orphanage in South Africa. Father David is used to working with children as he has several nieces and nephews and has worked with various youth groups, camps, and orphanages. He loves the energy of the Kindergarten class and the inquisitiveness of the middle school children. We are very blessed to have his presence in the school and the children are excited to see him often this year.
