FANWOOD, NJ — The Borough of Fanwood was named as the winner of New Jersey Monthly’s 2019 Small Town Showdown following four rounds of voting.

Fanwood was announced as the victor on Tuesday after they beat out "Lambertville in a landslide," according to the magazine.

The bracket-style elimination competition put 16 towns against one another. All of those towns had previously been listed in the magazine's "16 Small Towns We Love" list published in September.

"In Fanwood, we value our past while always looking to the future for ways to keep what has always defined Fanwood, a small town with a big heart, fresh and current. That love for our small town shone through these last few weeks during this friendly state wide competition. I am proud to be your mayor and can think of no better community to serve," said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr.

"At the end of the day, this contest is a great recognition to what we’ve always known — what a wonderful place Fanwood is," the mayor said. "Now, it’s clear that the rest of New Jersey knows it, too."
