How Much Is The Average Scotch Plains, Fanwood Property Tax Bill?
Scotch Plains and Fanwood's taxes have gone up recently, here's how much:
SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — Scotch Plains and Fanwood residents pay a lot in property taxes and more often than not, they increase annually.
The average Scotch Plains and Fanwood resident's property tax bill went up from 2017 to 2018, data released this week by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs shows.
The average Scotch Plains homeowner paid $13,419 in 2018, a 2.62 percent increase from 2017. The average bill was 61st highest in New Jersey.

The average Fanwood homeowner paid $12,390 in 2018, a 2.32 percent increase from 2017. The average bill was 81st highest in New Jersey.
In Union County, Summit City had the highest average tax bill of $17,919 yet the lowest decrease with -0.06 percent. Yet Cranford had the highest increase with 3.91 percent and Winfield had the lowest average tax bill of $3,574.

Between 2017 and 2018, the average homeowner's tax bill rose to $8,767, an increase of $77, less than 1 percent, which was an improvement over the 2016 hike of 2.3 percent. It was lower than the 2 percent cap former Gov. Chris Christie put into effect in 2011, according to the analysis.
