This September St. Bartholomew Academy welcomed 222 students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. The students were excited to see the many changes that awaited them, making the first few weeks memorable.
On our first Friday, the students celebrated the new school year with Mass. The Mass was led by the 8th grade students who acted as cantors, readers, altar servers and ministers of hospitality, and celebrated by the school’s new chaplain, Father David Santos. Earlier in the week, the 7th grade students met their Kindergarten prayer buddies and the 8th graders re-connected with their 1st grade prayer buddies. The prayer buddies will sit together at school Masses and the annual Thanksgiving lunch. They will enjoy different projects and activities throughout the year. The prayer buddy program is a special way to foster stewardship in our older students and provide guidance for our younger ones.
This year, the faculty and administration were excited to adopt block scheduling in the middle school. Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts are now meeting for 90 minutes twice a week, and 45 minutes once a week. The block schedule was implemented to improve student comprehension by allowing for more immersion into each subject. This also allows more time for the students to fully utilize the Google Chromebooks. The block schedule also enables students to learn time management skills, strengthen study skills, and prepare them for the types of schedule many high schools now follow.
