Union County Man Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting A Child, Jury Says
The four-year-old was an "acquaintance," according to prosecutors.
UNION COUNTY, NJ — A 53-year-old man was found guilty of sexually assaulting a child, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said.
Jose Miranda, of Plainfield, was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
On Aug. 13, 2023, Miranda performed sexual penetration on a four-year-old "acquaintance," prosecutors said. The child's parents reported the act to the Plainfield Police Department, who then turned the case over to the Union County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit.

Miranda was arrested on Aug. 14, 2023, and taken to Essex County Jail.
His trial lasted two weeks and ended with a jury deliberating for less than a half-day, officials said.

Miranda will remain in custody until his sentencing on March 13, and faces a mandatory sentence of at least 25 years in prison with 25 years of parole ineligibility.
