Man Hit, Killed By NJ Transit Train In Union County

A male pedestrian was struck and killed by a NJ Transit train in North Jersey on Thursday, officials said.

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - A male pedestrian was struck and killed by a NJ Transit train in North Jersey on Thursday, officials said.

The male pedestrian, whose identity was not immediately released, was struck by Gladstone Branch Train #419 at around 1:37 p.m. near Valley Avenue Bridge in Berkeley Heights, an NJ Transit spokesperson said.

The train departed from Hoboken at 12:36 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Gladstone at 2:12 p.m.

There were no injuries reported to the approximately 10 customers or crew on board, the spokesperson confirmed.

The Gladstone Branch was temporarily suspended near the NJ Transit Berkeley Heights station but has since resumed. Substitute bus service was provided during the suspension.

New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation.
