Mozart and More with Woodland String Quartet at Scotch Plains Public Library

The Woodland String Quartet will perform their annual Mozart and More concert at the Scotch Plains Public Library on Monday, August 28 at 6:45 pm. This year’s theme is "Mozart and Musicals" anchored by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s string quartet #4 in C Major K 157 written when he was a teenager. The rest of the program will consist of selections from classic musicals: Phantom of the Opera, Kismet, Girl Crazy, Lady, Be Good, Naughty Marietta, Everybody's Welcome, and Sinbad. Composers represented are Alexander Borodin, Victor Herbert, Andrew Lloyd Webber, George Gershwin, and others. Commentary on the musicals by Harry "Skip" Ungar.

This program is free and open to all interested participants. Registration is not required for this event, and seating will be on a first come, first seated basis beginning at 6:30 pm. Scotch Plains Public Library is located at 1927 Bartle Avenue, one block from Park Avenue in the center of town.

First violinist Debra Biderman of Edison has been performing with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra since 1967 and is also a private instructor of violin and viola.

Violinist Lubove Schnable of Fanwood is involved in chamber music and community orchestras in the tri-state area. She is the founder and director of the Woodland Quartet. The Quartet began in August 1970. With varied personnel, a performance by The Woodland Quartet has continued every August since 1970. Each performance has included a selection composed by Mozart.

Violist James Dykema of Morristown is an active musician in Northern New Jersey performing in chamber music and for many years as principal violist with the Summit Symphony.
