NJ Transit Proposes Discontinuing Union County Bus Route
NJ Transit's Bus Route No. 95 runs between Scotch Plains and Newark with stops in Westfield, Mountainside, Springfield and Union.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — New Jersey Transit is proposing the discontinuation of Bus Route No. 95 that runs between Scotch Plains and Newark with stops in Westfield, Mountainside, Springfield and Union.
NJ Transit will host two public hearings so that riders can comment on the proposed discontinuance.
The first hearing is scheduled for Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at NJ Transit Headquarters Board Room, One Penn Plaza East, in Newark. The second hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at Scotch Plains Municipal Building Courtroom/Council Chambers, First Floor, 430 Park Ave., in Scotch Plains.

The discontinuation is being proposed due to low ridership and the availability of ample alternative public transportation to facilitate these trips, according to NJ Transit.
"Approximately 179 one-way customers per weekday use this service, which can be represented as 11 passengers per trip," NJ Transit stated on its site. "All affected customers would continue to have alternative bus service available to them should the No. 95 bus service be discontinued."

Currently the bus runs on weekdays only, during the morning and evening hours. It runs only inbound towards Newark in the morning and only outbound towards Scotch Plains in the evening.
If you can't make it to either of the hearings, the public can still submit written comments for the record to the Public Hearing Office-Bus Route No. 95 Comments, NJ TRANSIT, One Penn Plaza East, Newark, New Jersey 07105 or on NJ Transit's website, www.njtransit.com/publichearings.
All comments must be received no later than midnight on Feb. 28.
No final decision has been made regarding the proposed bus route discontinuance and the public's views made at the hearings and through written comments will be presented to the NJ Transit Board of Directors before a final decision is made.
