1 Killed, 1 Injured After Tree Branch Hits Car In Union County, Police Say
A passenger was hospitalized and is expected to survive after a Friday night crash in Scotch Plains.
SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — One person was killed and another was injured after police say a tree branch fell and struck a vehicle during severe weather Friday night in Scotch Plains.
Authorities identified the driver as 40-year-old Jared Hirschowitz.
Police said Hirschowitz was driving on Raritan Road when a large tree branch broke off during the storm and hit the hood and windshield of his vehicle.

Officials said the impact caused the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a tree near 2150 Raritan Road.
Hirschowitz was killed in the crash, police said.

A 40-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to officials.
The crash remains under investigation.
