The Queen City Academy Read Across America Day
Celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday on Read Across America Day
The Queen City Academy Charter School celebrated National Read Across America Day. This observance was established to encourage and excite our children about reading. National Read Across America Day is celebrated annually on March 2nd, the birthday of Dr. Seuss who is recognized as an exceptional writer of children’s books.
In honor of this day, The Queen City Academy Charter School hosted a celebration where local community organization representatives read with scholars in Kindergarten through the 4th grade. The scholars were enthusiastically motivated by a number of honored guests, while taking part in a number of stimulating activities throughout the day. Scholars were visited by The Cat in the Hat and enjoyed reading with: Fire Chief Frank Tidwell, City of Plainfield, NJ; Union County Freeholder-Ms. Bette Jane Kowalski; Fulton Bank Employees- Domonique Callahan, Christina Jules, and Jackie Angulo; Community member- Ms. Rosa Nicks of the Plainfield Public Library; Police Officer Mylis Harrison, Plainfield Police Department; Firefighter Darnell Randolph, Plainfield Fire Department.
The Queen City Academy Charter School is a public charter school located in Plainfield, N.J. As the first charter school in Plainfield, QCACS has a long standing track record of closing the achievement gap for economically disadvantaged students in Plainfield. QCACS is a K-8 elementary public charter school located on West 7th Street in the West End of Plainfield, NJ. Chartered in 1999, with the mission of creating a safe and nurturing environment for children where the growth of the whole child is fostered by cultivating self –esteem and self concept development through a rigorous academic program, added valuable programs, resources, and experiences that foster independent thinkers, problem solvers and academically competitive future leaders.
