Scotch Plains Flags Flown At Half Staff For Texas, Ohio Victims

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Flags in Scotch Plains will be flown at half staff in remembrance of the victims of the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio this past weekend.
"The Mayor and Council of the Township of Scotch Plains vehemently condemn the actions taken over the weekend in Texas and Ohio. There is no place in our society for these senseless acts of violence," Township officials tweeted on Monday. "Our hearts go out to the families of the victims in this, another tragedy in America. Flags in Scotch Plains will be flown at half staff as a mark of solemn respect for the victims in these terrible acts of violence."
Over the weekend, a massacre at an El Paso shopping center left 20 people dead and 26 other injured. A 21-year-old man surrendered shortly after Saturday's rampage, authorities said.

Less than 24 hours later, nine people were killed and 27 wounded after a 24-year-old man opened fire in Dayton's entertainment district. The shooter is also dead, authorities said.
Both attacks come less than a week after a shooting at a California music festival left three dead.
