Scotch Plains Primary Election Results For 2020

Voting has ended in the Democratic and Republican Primary race with Alexander Smith, Joshua G. Losardo, Theodore Spera, and Ellen Zimmerman.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Voting for the uncontested Democratic and Republican primary in Scotch Plains has ended, with Incumbent Republican Alexander M. Smith and current Deputy Mayor and Democrat Joshua G. Losardo vying for the nomination of Mayor.

Incumbent Republican Theodore J. Spera and Democrat Ellen Zimmerman are vying for the one Township Council seat in the Nov. 3 general elections.

Fanwood had an uncontested race. Democrats Jeffrey Banks and Anthony Carter will run unopposed by any Republican candidates for the two open seats on the borough council in the general election.

Although the polls closed at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the final vote tallies are not expected for days due to the new voting process in light of the coronavirus. Check back as results become available.

Mayor

  • Republican Alexander M. Smith: 604
  • Democrat Joshua G. Losardo: 2,242

Township Council

  • Republican Theodore J. Spera: 604
  • Democrat Ellen Zimmerman: 2,250

Fanwood

  • Democrat Jeffrey Banks: 866
  • Democrat Anthony Carter: 871

Josh Losardo, 48, a Democrat who currently works as a small business owner for the past 8 years. Beforehand he worked as an attorney for 15 years. He is also the current Deputy Mayor of Scotch Plains. His family includes his wife Stacey; daughter Ave, 14; and son Ian, 11. Ellen Zimmerman, 51, has worked as a Human Resource Director at Franklin Food Bank in Somerset since January 2017. Her family includes her husband, Joshua Zimmerman (married since 1996) and children Ali Zimmerman, 21, a senior at New York University; Kelly Zimmerman, 18, a freshman at University of Colorado Boulder; and Jeremy Zimmerman, 15, a sophomore at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School. Zimmerman has a Master of Social Work from the New York University (May 2000) and Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia (June 1991).
