Solar Telescope Observation Event at the Scotch Plains Library

The Morris Museum Astronomical Society returns to the Scotch Plains Public Library for their annual visit—this year during the daylight! Join us outside the Library on Saturday, October 3rd between 1pm and 2:30pm for views of the Sun using filtered telescopes.

The Sun is a layered, dynamic sphere of plasma and gas without which we could not survive here on earth. We’ll observe the photosphere of the Sun - the layer that provides most of our light and often exhibits sunspots.

We’ll learn how the Sun produces its energy and about its intense magnetic field which creates sunspots and coronal outbursts. We’ll also explore the chromosphere, observing the loops and prominences normally only visible during a solar eclipse

The Morris Museum Astronomical Society is always open to new members, no matter their experience level, from Morris County and beyond. They hold regular celestial and solar observing sessions for members and provide outreach observing to schools, libraries, and civic organizations throughout northern New Jersey.
