December 15 - The Scotch Plains-Fanwood ice hockey team averted a loss to the Springfield Dayton Bulldogs Sunday night, 12/15, at the Rock in Dunellen, with a third period comeback goal by senior defenseman Tyler Hardgrove. Hardgrove blasted another of his trademark slapshots past a strong Bulldog goalie who had an outstanding game, stopping 40 shots on the night. It was Hardgrove’s second goal, scoring in the first period to tie the game after Dayton drew first blood. The game was penalty-filled, with over 20 players put in the box, split just about evenly between the two teams. Dayton had gone ahead early in the third period, but the Raiders looked like they would tie it up and even win if they could just stay out of the penalty box. Senior Raider goalie, Alex Montagna made several sparkling saves, stopping 12 Bulldog shots.
The Raiders had Cranford on their schedule on Tuesday, 12/17, and with Friday’s 12/20 game against Hightstown postponed, their next home game will be Monday, December 23rd at 8:30pm against Colonia at Warinanco. The Raiders then hit the road for away games against Ocean Township and Monroe Township on Dec. 26th and 27th.
