Trapped Baby Fawn Saved From Sewer Drain By Officer: Video

Video shows the Scotch Plains resident and Woodbridge Police Officer saving his third deer in just over one year.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A baby fawn trapped inside a sewer drain makes three deer saved by Scotch Plains resident and Woodbridge Police Officer Tim Majek in a little over than a year.

Around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, a call came in over the radio in Woodbridge about a baby deer stuck in the sewer. Majek hopped in his patrol car and responded to the Fox Hill Run townhouse complex on Rahway Avenue where the baby was trapped.

“There were a couple people standing around looking at it and they said they heard the baby deer crying around 1 a.m.,” Majek told Patch.

Majek had already saved two bucks last year so he was familiar with this situation. He removed the sewer grate, climbed in and carried the fawn out and back into the woods where the mother was waiting.

“This is my third deer I saved,” Majek said. “It’s kind of funny.”

Majek saved a buck in December 2016 that was stuck in a net while working on patrol in Woodbridge and another buck in April 2016 while at his home in Scotch Plains.

In the past Majek has also saved kittens from a sewer pipe in Flemington while visiting his sister off-duty and also saved a few ducklings who also got stuck in a sewer pipe in Woodbridge while working on duty as a police officer.

“I love animals,” Majek said. “If it was a snake down there though, forget it. I’m not going anywhere near it.”

You might call Majek the animal whisperer.
