Union Catholic Lays Groundwork For New Turf Field

The school began the project at the end of July.

Union Catholic High School is moving right along with work on its new state-of-the-art synthetic turf field and track surface.

After breaking ground on the project in late July, construction workers began preparing the area for the new facilities, which will be used by the school’s soccer, lacrosse, softball, baseball, cross country, track and field and cheerleading teams, along with physical education classes and intramural sports.

Last week, the school told Patch that they’ve now begun installing the drainage that will lay underground between the turf field and track. Varsity baseball coach Jim Reagan Jr. uploaded photos of the new work on a blog tracking the progress.

The facility is slated to include regulation-size, all-weather fields, with a practice track and cheerleading drill area. It will replace the existing athletic fields at the rear of the high school.

The current phase of development is scheduled for completion by late September. The school will offer tours of the new facility during an open house for prospective students at 7 p.m. October 8.

Extensive bleacher seating, a full-service concession stand, team dugouts, restrooms, storage facilities, and attractive lighting and landscaping elements are also all planned for the future.

The project is being funded entirely by private donors. Those interested in learning more are instructed to visit the school’s Web site at www.unioncatholic.org or call 908-889-1600.
